On Monday, March 16th Boys & Girls Clubs of East Mississippi made the difficult decision to close our 8 Club locations. While after-school activities have stopped for the unforeseen future, the mission of the Clubs to “serve those who need us most” is just beginning.
Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, Boys & Girls Clubs of East Mississippi also provided hundreds of the area's most vulnerable youth (5-18) with an evening meal and snack. As we assessed the situation, it became clear that making sure our kids were fed was the top priority.
We acted quickly, transforming our after-school food programs and Club sites into ‘Grab-N-Go’ and ‘Drop-N-Go’ community food service hubs. We re-deployed our USDA trained staff, and devoted the Clubs resources to providing drive-through food pickup and delivery services.
As the scope of Coronavirus pandemic continues to grow, and based on the reality we’re seeing on the ground, we know that the basic need for food will expand as well. As our grocery stores and local food banks continue to struggle to meet the demands of the general public, those without resources will be the first to suffer.
We are in a unique position to help.
Currently, we have the training, personnel, and partnerships necessary to expand our capacity and are coordinating with Federal, State, and local community organizations to prepare for coming needs.
However, with the significant losses to our program service revenue, state childcare reimbursement funding, and cancellation of our fundraising events, we are facing as much as a $100,000 loss in the coming weeks with more projected in the coming months.
Support from our community is more critical than ever, as it will ensure that our incredible staff can continue to do whatever it takes to take care of our children and teens we love.
Please consider donating today.
Boys & Girls Clubs of East Mississippi provide critical after-school and food programs for many children and teens in our communities. As all of us deal with the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the BGCEMS is committed to putting the safety of our children and teens.
On Monday, March 16th Boys & Girls Clubs of East Mississippi made the difficult decision to close our six Clubs. While after-school activities have stopped for the safety of our communities, the mission of the Clubs to “serve those who need us most” at this critical moment is just beginning.
Area Clubs are providing Grab-N-Go meals at our Club sites Monday through Friday for ANY youth (ages 5-18). We are also delivering meals to those without transportation or local resources. This is a community service, and Club membership is not required. Limit one meal/snack per child. Recipients will be asked to provide the names and ages of each child receiving a meal.

Many children in and around East Mississippi are fighting an uphill battle. Mississippi reports elevated rates of high school dropout, teen pregnancy, and obesity compared to national averages. Many kids don’t have the resources or role models they need to change their path.
At Boys & Girls Clubs of East Mississippi, we help kids reach their full potential. Our programs focus on helping kids succeed in school, live healthy, and become leaders. Reaching thousands of kids each day, we have the power to change our city. Join us!
It takes a lot of supplies to run six Clubs serving hundreds of kids each day. From sports equipment to office supplies to tickets to events, let us know what items you would like to donate. Check with our Clubs and see if we have a need.
